'there are some very good reasons to be afraid of the dark'. many people are afraid of the dark in fact its one of the most common top fears in the world, this allows the audience to put themselves in the protagonists shoes from there perspective making in far the more scary. so to have a tag line such as that is already a perfect start as its targeting peoples fears. the picture shows an isolated house, not abandoned but still presents the same eerie feeling, with a spirit of sort looking over the house from behind, almost looming in the forest that lies behind the house. giving off the impression that no matter what the case is, if the moon is out and ski is black this evil spirit will always be lurking in your shadows the spirit is elevated over the house this gives the audience the idea of its power and there forth the lack of power the protagonist has and how defenceless they really are ...

the importance of targeting an audience The usual age for the target audience of a horror film is 15- 25 . The most common reason for this is that young adults and teenagers enjoy thrills. These thrills are more likely to excite a younger audience rather than an older one. Many young audiences are not put off by graphic images also, but are actually drawn towards them. some horror movies try to target a younger audience to maximise the amount of sales that can be made for example 'the women in black' staring Daniel Radcliffe, they manages to get the movies to a 12A broudining the audience by a huge amount. how they did this was by not showing gore scenes, lack of swear words. in a movie lie this the main focus would of been not showing gore and blood to prevent a 15 or even 18. other movies have done similar things, well knows for this is James bond they tend to work a long side the bbfc to make sure they get that 12A. they do t...

Sound in horror. Sound in the movie genre of horror is something that is extremely important as not only does it set the scene for the viewer but it also: Sets the mood for the scene - this can be done by playing happy music when for example: When the son gets brought out of a coma (Insidious 2010) or shown by playing loud unsettling music when something bad is about to take place for example: in Alfred Hitchcocks very famous scene where a woman is getting murdered in the shower (Phsycho 1960) It can occasionally suggest how a situation is going to unfold for example: when the whole audio cuts out when its a long shot of the Valak (Conjuring 2 2016) Certain sounds can be used to trigger fear in the audience. This is also the case in the previous scene used.
